October Classical Series 2025: Marvelous Song Recital
The evening concludes with a selection of witty, playful songs by Vincenzo Bellini, written during his early years in Naples and Milan before his move to Paris.

The centerpiece of the program is Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love), Op. 48 — perhaps the most beloved song cycle in the Romantic repertoire.
📅 Sunday, 14 September 2025 | 7:00 PM
📍 Raffles Hotel Le Royal
🎭 Performers:
- Martin Ng (Baritone, Singapore)
- Issei Sakano (Piano accompaniment & intermezzi)
With poetry drawn from Heinrich Heine’s Lyrical Intermezzo, Schumann’s music captures the nuances of love, longing, and bittersweet reflection.
Adding a touch of Americana, the recital features six selections from Charles Ives’ monumental 114 Songs. Ives’ adventurous harmonic language and unique blending of traditional and experimental styles make these pieces a fascinating counterpoint to the European works on the program.
